Michael Kerres

Michael Kerres (* 1960 ) is professor for media didactics and knowledge management at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Life

Michael Kerres studied and obtained his doctorate in psychology at the Ruhr University Bochum . In 1989 he became professor for media didactics and psychology at Furtwangen University . After completing his habilitation in Freiburg, he accepted a professorship for educational psychology (media) at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1998, and in 2001 at the University of Duisburg-Essen. There he set up the Learning Lab, a reference environment for research and development in media-based teaching and learning. 2007–2008 he was Vice Rector “Information, Communication, Media” at the university. In 2009 he founded the learninglab GmbH.

Michael Kerres is one of the pioneers of e-learning in German-speaking countries. As early as 1995 he conducted the first internet-based, open courses. Together with Fritz Steimer and Martin Aichele, he was involved in setting up the media informatics course at Furtwangen University and founded the “tele-akademie” in Furtwangen in the mid-1990s (“HFU Academy” since 2010). Today he heads the master's programs “Educational Media” and “Educational Leadership” at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Kerres is a member of the topic group "Change Management & Organizational Development" at the University Forum Digitization initiated in 2014 by the Center for University Development, University Rectors ' Conference and Donors' Association , which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .
