Michael Kerstgens

Michael Kerstgens (* 1960 in Llanelli , South Wales , Great Britain ) is a documentarist, artist and portrait photographer.

Life

Kerstgens has lived in Germany since 1965 and went to school in Mülheim an der Ruhr . Until 1993 he studied photography with Professor Angela Neuke at the University of Essen in Essen . However, he has been working as a photographer since 1987.

In 2004 he received the Imke Folkerts Prize for Fine Art as one of two winners. From 2005 to 2007 Kerstgens was a lecturer in photography in the design department at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Dessau. Michael Kerstgens has been Professor of Photography in the Photography Department of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences since 2007. In 2014 he was awarded the Ruhr Prize for Art and Science .
