Michael Klein (Manager)

Michael Stuart Klein (born November 12, 1963 ) is an American investment banker , manager and member of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse . Until 2008, he was Chairman of the Board of the Institutional Clients Group and, at the same time, Vice Chairman of the Board of the American bank Citigroup .

Michael Stuart Klein was born on November 12, 1963 to Barry Klein and Leah S. (Gordon) Klein.

Klein graduated in 1985 his studies in Economics ( Finance and Accounting ) at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with distinction ( cum laude ) from. He has another degree from Harvard University .

Career

From 1985 to 2008 he worked at Citigroup as Vice Chairman , Chairman Institutional Clients Group , Chairman & Co-CEO Markets & Banking , Co-President Markets & Banking , CEO Global Banking , CEO Markets and Banking EMEA and in other management positions : from 1985 to In 1997 he worked in the merger and acquisition group at Salomon Brothers , an American investment bank that was bought by what is now Citigroup.

In early 1999, Klein headed the expansion of the European investment banking business. An important step in this development was the merger of the European operations of Salomon Smith Barney with Schroders , a leading UK and European commercial bank, in May 2000. From 2000 to 2003 he was Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup Corporation & Investment Bank and Co-Head of Global Investment Banking Division Salomon Smith Barney of Citigroup. From 2003 to 2004 he was Chief Executive Officer responsible for Global Corporation & Investment Bank EMEA at Citigroup, Incorporated in New York . From 2004 to 2006 he was Vice Chairman of Citigroup International PLC and Chief Executive Officer Global Banking .

In 2006, he was instrumental in Citi's announcement that it would make a multi-billion dollar commitment to combating global climate change through investment, financing and related activities over a period of 10 years . In 2007 he was Chairman of the Global Corporation & Investment Banking Group . From 2007 to 2008 he was Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of Citi Markets & Banking . In 2008 he was Chairman of the Citi Institutional Clients Group . Klein has also advised the company on acquisitions, divestments and capital raising.

He has been a Managing Partner at M Klein & Company since 2010 . He has been a member of the Risk Committee at Credit Suisse since April 2018 .

Other activities and functions

Klein is a member of the Harvard Global Advisory Council , a member of the Investment Advisory Board of the World Food Program, and a member of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Klein was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Thyssen Bornemisza Group . He was also a member of the international council Belfer Center .

Personal

Klein married Beth Robin Neckman on January 16, 1999 and has two children.
