life and work

Michael Kruscha lives and works in Berlin. From 1999 to 2001 he worked and studied at Daniel Fischer (Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava ).

Kruscha works as a painter and photographer. Since 1990 he has undertaken several project trips a. a. to Almaty in Kazakhstan , to Nazca in Peru or Sanaa in Yemen, from which thematic work cycles emerged. The series Pueblo was created after a visit to the Indian regions in southwest North America . The content of his painting are objects and impressions of his travels and everyday life. These are often highly abstracted or reduced. The superimposition of image planes and graphic and geometric structures are characteristic. Furthermore, the overlaying of colored areas and symbols.

Since 2011, a new complex of topics has emerged in the Kruschas plant in Lusatia , namely the opencast mine landscapes and their transformation. One work on this theme is Dance of the Phoenix , which he created with the sculptor Ines Diederich . This installation in the Welzow-Süd opencast mine accompanied the “Paso doble” exhibition at the Geisendorf manor . During the installation, a phoenix caught in a wooden sculpture went up in flames - and rose out of it. Kruscha thus opened up the installation as an additional means of expression.

His photography is described in such a way that it shows the direct world in an abstract way. Implemented with a painterly element. Over a period of twelve years, the long-term photographic project Bus Stops was created in various places around the world .
