Michael "Mike" Kurt (born April 2, 1980 in Sumiswald ) is a former Swiss canoeist . He went canoe slalom in a single kayak .

In 1998 Kurt finished second at the Junior World Championships in Lofer and was the first Swiss ever to win an individual medal in this discipline; a silver medal in the team competition was added at the same location. He achieved the same placements the following year, also in Lofer. In 2000 he won bronze at the elite European championships in Mezzana . In Augsburg he became world champion with the team in 2003, in 2004 he won the European championship in Skopje , also with the team.

Kurt almost created a sensation at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . He won the qualifying rounds, but then failed in the semifinals and was eliminated. In 2006 he finished second at the Student World Championships in Krakow . In the 2007 season he achieved second place, the best place ever for a Swiss in the overall canoe slalom World Cup.

The ten-time Swiss champion Kurt lives in Solothurn , started for the Solothurn kayaker association and is a business economist by profession .

In 2016 he ended his professional sports career. He has been a member of the Executive Board of Swiss Olympic since 2017 and was elected President of Swiss University Sports in 2018. Kurt also founded the successful crowdfunding platform for athletes ibelieveinyou.ch in 2013

In September 2018 he married his girlfriend Liliana Belchior.
