Michael Lang (paper manufacturer)

Michael Lang (born January 6, 1862 in Ettringen , † May 21, 1932 ibid) was a paper manufacturer and is an honorary citizen of the Ettringen community.

Life

Company founder Michael Lang comes from the second marriage of Johann Martin Lang to Viktoria Lang, the youngest of five children, who owned property no. 44 - house name "Marzjörgle" in Ettringen. Michael Lang first founded a sawmill in Ettringen together with his older brothers Johann and Georg. After a fire, the Lang brothers relocated their business activities to Großaitingen in 1888 , where they acquired the sawmill there with usable water power. In 1897, in addition to the sawmill in Großaitingen, they began producing wood pulp in Ettringen east of the Wertach . The company name was from then on "Gebrüder Lang" with z. T. changing legal form. (Note: In old community documents, the oldest brother Johann was mistakenly confused with the father of the same name. In fact, the founders were the 3 brothers without a father.)

In 1898 both father Johann Martin and his eldest son Johann (Michael's half-brother) died in the same year. As a result, the second oldest brother Georg took over the farm from his father in Ettringen. After wood grinding soon became the company's most important mainstay, Michael Lang's family also moved back to Ettringen in 1899. Due to the double burden with the farm and the company, Georg also left the company after a transition period, so that Michael Lang became the sole owner of the sawmill and wood pulp factory from 1900. In 1910, with the purchase of the first paper machine for the production of newsprint, the foundation stone was laid for the paper factory and the Lang Papier company ( "Gebrüder Lang GmbH Papierfabrik" ). Ettringen, which was previously exclusively agricultural, experienced its first industrial development. Until his death in 1932 he held the management. Thereafter, the company continued in the family until it was taken over by new Finnish owners on January 1st, 1987.

Michael Lang was married to Barbara Lang, b. Müller, from Ettringen. The couple had eight children together.
