Michael Lashley

Michael Andrew Lashley is a lawyer and politician from Barbados from the Democratic Labor Party (DLP), the 2003-2018 member of the House of Assembly and, since 2013 Minister of Transport and Public Works in the Cabinet of Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart was.

Life

Lashley graduated after attending the Garrison Secondary School and the Barbados Community College to study law at the University of the West Indies , Cave Hill Campus and the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School . During his studies he served as president of the National Barbados Law Students 'Association at Sir Hugh Wooding Law School and as a founding member of the Garrison School Old Scholars' Association .

After completing his studies, he started practicing as a lawyer in October 1995 as a partner in the law firm Simmons, Chandler and Lashley , where he specialized in criminal law. He also worked part-time as a law tutor at the Urban Adult College .

In the elections of May 21, 2003 Lashley was first elected a member of the House of Assembly and represents in this after his re-elections on January 15, 2008 and February 21, 2013 the constituency of St. Philip North .

Lashley was appointed Minister of Housing and Lands by Prime Minister David Thompson in January 2008 after the DLP won the January 15, 2008 election . As such, he successfully contributed to the construction of several hundred apartments. Since October 23, 2010, he has also held this ministerial office in the government of Freundel Stuart, who had taken over the office of Prime Minister after Thompson's death.

In March 2013, Prime Minister Stuart appointed him Minister of Transport and Works , while Denis Kellman succeeded him as Minister of Housing and Land. In his new ministerial office, Lashley was committed to maintaining and developing the road infrastructure and improving the transport system. He remained a minister until the government was replaced in May 2018.

He also is involved in sports and culture of the country, such as co-founder of the St. Philip's Carnival Committee and an active member of the St. Catherine's Sports Club , a sports club with a long and rich history in the Premier League Division in cricket in Barbados.
