Yeşilyurt is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Turkish province of Tokat . The city is located about 45 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Tokat . According to the city seal, Yeşilyurt was raised to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1909 .

The district is located in the south of the province. It is bordered by Sulusaray County to the west , Artova County to the north, Central County to the east and Yıldızeli County to the south ( Sivas Province ). The city is connected by a country road with Artova and the provincial capital in the northeast, in the west with Sulusaray and with Kadışehri in the province of Yozgat . It is located on the railway line from Samsun to Kayseri.

Çekerek Çayı flows through town and district from east to west . The Karasu Deresi flow into these east of the city from the north and the Büğer Deresi from the south . The latter is dammed up to Büğer Sulama Göleti , not far west of it are the Eserce Sulama Göleti and other small lakes.

The district was split off from the southern part of Artova district in 1988. Until then, some of the localities belonged to the Bucak Merkez of this district. At the end of 2018, in addition to the district town, there were 16 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 214 inhabitants, Kuşçu was the largest village with 844 inhabitants.

The population density of the district reached 32.7 inh. Per km² at the end of 2018, only half of the provincial value (61.0). The urban population was 62.6 percent.
