Franklin D. Hale (born March 7, 1854 in Barnet , Vermont , † April 21, 1940 in Lyndon Center , Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician who was State Auditor of Vermont from 1892 to 1898 and then in the diplomatic field Service went.

Life

Franklin Darius Hale was born in Barnet, Vermont to Sprague Taylor Hale and Nancy May Moulton Hale. He attended school in Concord , Vermont. He went to high school in Northfield and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury .

In 1877, Hale graduated from the University of Michigan with a law degree and was admitted to the bar. First he worked in Lewiston , Maine , and later in Lunenburg , Vermont.

As a member of the Republican Party , Hale was District Attorney for Essex County from 1883 to 1889 . He was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1884 to 1885 and a member of the Vermont Senate from 1885 to 1887 . He had a second term in the House of Representatives from 1898 to 1901.

From 1891 to 1892, Hale town site trustee of Oklahoma City in the Oklahoma Territory . The town site trustees were appointed by the United States Secretary of the Interior and were responsible for dividing the state-held land into townships for white settlers in the areas. Hale was a State Auditor of Vermont from 1892 to 1898. Hale was the secretary of the Treasurer of Cuba from 1899 to 1900 .

In early 1900, Hale passed the diplomatic service entrance exam and began a career as a consul . He served as Ambassador to Coaticook , Canada from 1902 to 1908 and to Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island from 1908 to 1909 .

Hale was appointed consul to Trinidad in 1909 and held that office until 1912. Then from 1912 to 1917 Hale was consul in Huddersfield , England .

Hale also worked as a poet and wrote Reveries of Vermont in 1929 .

Franklin D. Hale married Adeline Silsby on November 2, 1881, after her death, he married Jennie A. Silsby on November 26, 1907. He died in Lyndon Center, Vermont on April 21, 1940.
