Alexander Hutchinson

Alexander Hutchinson (born July 4, 1764 in Grafton , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † February 25, 1853 in Pomfret , Vermont ) was an American politician and businessman who was State Auditor of Vermont from 1806 to 1813 and 1815 to 1817 .

Life

Alexander Hutchinson also called Alex or Alex'r was born in Grafton, Massachusetts on July 4, 1764. He was a bachelor throughout his life and grew up in Woodstock . There he became a successful businessman and had a reputation as an eccentric.

Hutchinson was a veteran of the American Revolution and, along with other members of his militia unit, joined the militia in the aftermath of the Royalton Raid , a British-led Indian attack on several towns along the White River Valley in the Vermont Republic .

He held various public offices, including the probate court and postmaster.

He was a Vermont State Auditor from 1806 to 1813 and 1815 to 1817.

Hutchinson died in Pomfret, Vermont on February 25, 1853. His grave is in Cushing Cemetery, Woodstock.
