Elisha Clark

Elisha Clark (born September 12, 1752 in Norwich , † December 12, 1838 in Tinmouth , Vermont ) was a Vermont veteran of the American Revolution and politician who was the first State Auditor of Vermont from 1790 to 1797 .

Life

Clark was born in Norwich, Connecticut to Nathan Clark and Abigail Satterlee.

During the Revolution, he served as a sergeant under Seth Warner in the Green Mountain Boys and as an adjutant to Colonel Samuel Herrick in the Vermont militia . He also served as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

He settled in Tinmouth, Vermont and held various offices in the local government, including a justice of the peace . He served as a probate judge for Rutland County from 1784 to 1803. He was the first State Auditor also called the Auditor of Accounts of Vermont. He held this office from 1790 to 1797.

Elisha Clark was married to Mary Stuart in her first marriage, the couple had four children, in a second marriage with Betsey Jewell, from this marriage came a son and in a third marriage with Edna Mattocks. There were six children from this marriage.

Clark died in Tinmouth on December 12, 1838. His grave is in Tinmouth's Noble Family Cemetery.
