David V. Anderson

David V. Anderson (born September 4, 1899 in Quincy , Massachusetts , † September 3, 1979 in Montpelier , Vermont ) was an American politician who was State Auditor of Vermont from 1941 to 1965 .

Life

David Verner Anderson was born in Quincy, Massachusetts to David and Emily Anderson. His parents were from Sweden . The family moved to Montpelier, Vermont in 1901. He studied at Norwich University in Northfield and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. In October 1918 he was inducted into the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Norwich University. Shortly after the end of the First World War , he was released from service in December 1918. He continued his studies and graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1922 and was a reserve officer in the American Legion .

In 1927, Anderson was named Assistant State Auditor for Vermont. He held this position until 1940, when he ran as a member of the Republican Party for State Auditor. He held this office until 1964. He lost the 1966 election in favor of Democratic Party candidate Jay H. Gordon .

In addition to his work as a politician, Anderson was active in local clubs and associations. In the 1930s he worked for Waterbury Radio (broadcaster WDEV) and broadcast a series of radio documentary talks on this station. He was also a member of "The Club" in Montpelier and the Christ Church, also known as "The Saturday Club", a literary association. He belonged to the Episcopal Church and was a member of the Freemasons .

David Verner Anderson married Iola Florence Bagley (1905–1970) on August 24, 1929. He died on September 3, 1979, the day before his 80th birthday, and was cremated. It is not known where his grave is located.
