Whitman G. Ferrin

Whitman G. Ferrin (born July 9, 1818 in Croydon , New Hampshire , † June 1, 1896 in Montpelier , Vermont ) was an American lawyer and politician who was State Auditor of Vermont from 1870 to 1876 .

Life

Whitman George Ferrin was born in Croydon, New Hampshire, to John and Hannah Ferrin. He grew up in Morrisville and Montpelier, Vermont, studied law under Luke Poland and was admitted to the bar. Ferrin practiced in Wolcott and later in Johnson , Hyde Park and Montpelier.

Ferrin District Attorney of Lamoille County from 1848 to 1849 . He also held various public offices. Among other things, he worked as a justice of the peace .

As a member of the Republican Party , Ferrin was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives on several occasions . In 1870 he was elected a State Auditor. He held this office until 1876.

Ferrin was one of the original founders of the Montpelier Savings Bank and Trust Company and was its treasurer. He was also President of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company.

Whitman G. Ferrin died on June 1, 1896 in Montpelier.

Ferrin's uncle was Governor George Whitman Hendee .
