history
The Grant for Hyde Park was given on November 6, 1780 to Jedediah Hyde and 65 other settlers by Governor Thomas Chittenden and named after him. Hyde, as well as several other beneficiaries of the grant, were veterans of the American Revolutionary War , as well as relatives or friends of Jedediah Hyde. This was established on August 27, 1781. Settlement began in 1787. One of the first settlers to move to Hyde Park with his family was John McDaniel. In the same year another family moved to Hyde Park, which was still completely undeveloped and without roads or paths. Jedediah Hyde moved there a year later and the town's constituent assembly took place in 1791.
At the time the grant was awarded, Hyde Park was part of Chittendden County , after which the county often changed. Hyde Park was subsequently part of Rutland Counties , Addision Counties , Orleans Counties and, since 1835, Hyde Park belongs to Lamoille County . Hyde Park became Shire Town after Joshua Sawyer gave a speech to the General Assembly in 1835, in which it prevailed against Johnson and Morrisville.
The required buildings were built in the town. The Hyde Park Opera House was built as the town hall for the Shire Town of Lamoille County. It is also characterized by excellent acoustics. A court house and a town hall for the tasks of the town and the county were also built.
