Geographical location

Elmore is located in southeast Lamoille County, in a rugged stretch of the Green Mountains on the Washington County border . Part of the streams drains north into the Lamoille River and south into the Winooski River . There are several larger lakes in the town area. The largest is Lake Elmore in the north. To the south are Hartwood Pond and Little Pond . The area of ​​the town is very hilly, the highest point is the 787 m high Elmore Mountain in the north. It is located in Elmore State Park . Adjacent to it and running south is the CC Putnam State Forest .

The Grant for Elmore was given on November 7, 1780 to Colonel Samuel Elmore and other settlers and named after Colonel Elmore. This was established on August 21, 1781. Settlement began in 1790 and Martin and Jesse Elmore were among the first settlers. The town's constituent assembly took place on July 23, 1794. The grant recipients were soldiers in the American Revolutionary War . General Oliver Wolcott, after whom the neighboring town of Wolcott was named, was among the recipients of the grant.
