Wolcott is in the east of Lamoille County, in a rugged part of the Green Mountains , and is traversed by the North Branch Lamoille River in a westerly direction. The largest lake in the town's area is Wolcott Pond to the east . The area of ​​the town is hilly, the highest point being the 506 m high Scribner Hill.

Lamoille River in Wolcott

The grant for Wolcott was on November 7, 1780 to Josuah Stanton and 61 other settlers. This was confirmed on August 22, 1781. Wolcott was settled from 1789. The first settlers were Thomas Tylor and Seth Hubbell. The town's constituent assembly took place on March 31, 1791. It was not until the beginning of the 19th century that there was increasing settlement and in 1830 there were 492 people in Wolcott. The town was named after one of the grant recipients, Major Oliver Wolcott.

Fisher Covered Bridge

The Lunenburg – Maquam railway reached Walcott in 1872. The line is closed today. There were many covered wooden bridges along the route. Most of them were destroyed by floods, later relocated by steel structures. The last remaining one is the Fisher Covered Bridge in Walcott, listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
