Clifton G. Parker
Clifton Goodrich Parker (born October 2, 1906 in Wolcott , Vermont , † April 19, 1988 ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). He was Attorney General of Vermont from 1947 to 1953 .
Career
Clifton Goodrich Parker, son of Katy May Goodrich (* 1885) and Herbert Parker, was born in Lamoille County in 1906 . He attended public schools in Wolcott and the Hardwick Academy. His youth were overshadowed by the First World War . Parker studied law at the law firm of Dutton & Morse in Hardwick (Vermont). He was admitted to the bar in 1932. In 1934 he opened his own legal practice in Morristown, Vermont. He became a Lamoille County prosecutor in 1936 - a post he held until 1941. From 1939 he was Water and Light Commissioner in the Village of Morrisville . Parker served as First Assistant Clerk of the House in the Vermont General Assembly from 1939 to 1941 , and as a clerk from 1943 to 1947 . He held the post of Assistant Attorney General of Vermont from 1941 to 1947. His term of office was overshadowed by the Second World War . He was elected Attorney General of Vermont in 1946 and re-elected in 1948 and 1950.
After the 1940 Census , Parker was married to Francis M. Simmons (33 years) from New Hampshire , daughter of Frank Simmons (70 years). The couple had four children: Florence M. (12 years old), Charlotte E. (8 years old), Robert C. (6 years old) and Arlyn S. (4 years old).
