J. Ward Carver

J. Ward Carver (born February 19, 1881 , in Calais , Vermont , † July 22, 1942 in Barre , Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician who was Vermont Attorney General from 1925 to 1931 .

Life

Jay Ward Carver was born in Calais, Vermont. He grew up in Marshfield and graduated from Montpelier High School. He then attended Goddard Seminary in 1900 .

Carver studied law while teaching at a school and was admitted to the bar in 1905. He opened a law firm in Barre. A member of the Vermont Republican Party , he was Barre Corporation Counsel , District Attorney for Washington County, and a member of the Vermont Senate .

Carver was appointed Vermont Attorney General in 1925 to fill that void after Frank C. Archibald stepped down. He was re-elected in 1926 and 1928, so his term in office lasted from 1926 to 1931.

In the 1930s Carver had a law firm together with Stanley C. Wilson , F. Ray Keyer the father of the future governor of Vermont F. Ray Keyser and Deane C. Davis . Your firm has been described as:

"Best ever collection of legal talent, in that it produced one Vermont Supreme Court Justice [Carver], two Governors [Wilson and Davis], and one state Attorney General [Carver]"

"The best collection of legal talents to date to produce a Vermont Supreme Court attorney [Carver], two Vermont governors [Wilsond and Davis], and a Vermont Attorney General."

Carver was President of the Vermont Bar Association from 1935 to 1936.

Carver died in Barre on July 22, 1942.
