Charles J. Adams

Charles Jairus Adams (born February 17, 1917 in Randolph , Vermont , † May 16, 2008 in Williston , Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician who was appointed Vermont Attorney General in 1962 , around the time until the next to bridge regular election.

Life

Charles Jairus Adams was born in Randolph, Vermont to Charles B. Adams and Jeanette Metzger. He graduated from Waterbury High School in 1935 and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Norwich University in 1939 . During the Second World War he served in the US Army . After the war, he attended Boston University Law School. He finished this in 1951.

Adams began his practice as a lawyer in 1951 in Montpelier . He became a partner in the law firm Meaker & Adams in Waterbury , Vermont, in 1956. This law firm merged with others in the law firm Adams Darby & Laundon in 1980 . He continued to work there until 1987. He continued to work in this law firm in an advisory capacity until he retired in 1999.

He was appointed Vermont Attorney General for one year by Governor F. Ray Keyser in 1962 to bridge the gap until the next regular election.

He held various elective and honorary offices in Waterbury. He was on the library's advisory board, chaired the school committee and moderated the city assembly. He was a member and president of the Waterbury Rotary Club, executive director of the Waterbury Historical Society and head of the Waterbury Congregational Church, president of the Alumni Association of Norwich University and curator of the University Cemetery.

He was married to Mary Ella Tobey. The couple had two daughters.
