John P. Connarn

John Patrick Connarn (* 1918 in Brattleboro , Vermont ; † March 26, 2002 in Berlin , Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician who was Vermont Attorney General from 1965 to 1967 .

Life

John P. Connarn was born in Brattleboro in 1918. The family moved to Northfield . He attended Northfield High School and studied at Norwich University . There he graduated in 1941. During World War II he served in the US Army in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean and was wounded in France . He graduated from the University of Maine with a law degree in 1951 after the war ended . He then worked as a lawyer in Northfield.

A member of the Democratic Party of Vermont, Connarn was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives for Northfield and was appointed Vermont Attorney General in 1964. He was elected Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Vermont by the Vermont General Assembly in 1967. He was a judge in the District Court and the Vermont Superior Court. He held these positions as a judge until his retirement in 1985. After retiring as a judge, he volunteered for the Northfield Development Corporation.

He took over the Margaret Holland Inn in Northfield from his mother. He ran this as owner and host. He served two terms on the Northfield School Board. He was also closely associated with his former university, Norwich University, throughout his life. He was President of the Norwich University Alumni Association and District Director of the Norwich University 2000 Fund Drive.

John P. Connarn was first married to the artist Alicia Stonebreaker and later to Stanislawa Barbara Prostacka Michalek. He had two daughters, a son and four step-sons.

He died on March 26, 2002 in Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, Vermont. His grave is in Aldrich Cemetery in Northfield.
