Greensboro is in the south of Orleans County. There are several lakes in the area of ​​the town. The largest is the centrally located Caspian Lake . The grant for Greensboro got on November 6, 1780 Harris Cold and 66 other owners. This was established on August 20, 1781 initially under the name Coltkiln , later the place was renamed Greensboro in honor of Timothy Green. The area was opened up by the Bayley-Hazen Military Road , which George Washington had built in 1776 in preparation for an invasion of Canada. The road reached Greensboro in 1779, but led not to Canada, but to Montgomery . The street was secured by guard houses. Two young guards were killed in an Indian raid, two more were taken to Canada and later exchanged for Indian prisoners.

The first settlers reached Greensboro in 1789. They were Ashbel and Aaron Shepaard with their wives. On March 29, 1792 the constituent city assembly took place.
