Troy is a town in Orleans County in the state of Vermont in the United States with 1677 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census).
geography
Geographical location
Troy is in northwest Orleans County, south of the Canadian border . The Missisquoi River flows through the town centrally in a northerly direction. There are no major lakes in the town area. The area of the town is only slightly hilly. The highest point is the 312 m high Warner Hill .

history
There were two grants for the Town Troy area. On October 13, 1792, John Kelley received the grant for the southern area and Samuel Avery for the northern area. Settlement began in 1800, in 1801 the grants were amalgamated and on March 30, 1802 the town's constituent assembly took place. At that time under the name Missisquoi . In 1803 the name was changed to Troy .
High quality iron ore was found east of the Missiqoui River in the early 19th century . Iron works were built and the ore melted. The iron ore was used to make the iron girders that mark the border with Canada. However, the huts could not work economically and had to close.

traffic
The Vermont State Route 100 leads east to west of Westfield in the west to Newport in the east. At Village Troy, Vermont State Route 101 branches off in a northerly direction to North Troy. It meets Vermont State Route 105 , which runs in a west-east direction from Jay in the west to Newport in the east. The railway line Newport Farnham runs over the area of the town, with the breakpoint Elkhurst . The former Eastman-Elkhurst railway connected Eastman in Québec with Elkurst in Troy.

There is no hospital of its own in Troy. The closest hospital is North Country Hospital & Health Care in Newport City.
education
Troy is part of the North Country Supervisory Union . Troy Elementary School is located in Troy , with classes from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.
The William and Lucy Rand Memorial Library is a public library and is located in North Troy.
