Orleans is a village in the town of Barton in Orleans County , Vermont in the United States with 818 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census). Orleans lies to the north in the town of Barton, on which it is politically and administratively dependent, at the confluence of the Willoughby River with the Barton River . To the northeast, the village borders the Willoughby Falls State Wildlife Management Area . The Interstate 91 runs in a north-south direction along the western edge and the US Highway 5 in east-west direction through the center of villages.

history

The grant for Barton was proclaimed on October 28, 1781. The grant was given to Colonel William Barton and others. The Village Orleans was granted independent rights in 1879.

At first the village was named Barton Landing after its location on the Barton River. However, since the residents felt that they were behind the other village in the town of Barton, Barton Village , the village was renamed Orleans in 1909 .

The most important local employer is the furniture manufacturer Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. with a plant in Orleans.
