Barton is in east Orleans County. There are several lakes in the area of ​​the town. The largest is Christal Lake in the south, May Pond to the east and Baker Pond to the west . In the north of the town is the Willoughby Falls State Wildlife Management Area . The Barton River flows through the town in a northerly direction and flows into Lac Memphrémagog . The grant for Barton was proclaimed on October 28, 1781. The grant was given to Colonel William Barton and others. The town was named after Colonel Barton on October 20, 1789 when it was founded. The town began to be settled in 1796, with the first settlers coming from Rhode Island or New Hampshire, such as Colonel Barton. The constituent meeting took place on March 20, 1798.

Located in the northwest, Village Orleans is the largest village in Vermont. The favorable location at the confluence of the Willoughby River in the Barton River favored the development of Orleans and Barton.

Parks

In the north of the town is the Willoughby Falls Wildlife Management Area .

The Crystal Lake State Park is located on Crystal Lake. This was originally called Bell Lake and was renamed Crystal Lake because its water is extraordinarily pure and clear. On the east bank there was a granite quarry, the stones of which were also used to build the parking garage. The house was built by the CCC.

Crystal Lake is about three miles long and about a mile wide. It is a glacial lake that lies between the Roughhewn Mountains.
