George Comings

George Fisher Comings (born March 18, 1849 in Greensboro , Vermont , †  June 10, 1942 in Whitehall , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1925 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin.

Career

George Comings attended the public schools in his home country and the Barre Academy . In 1870 he and his family moved to St. Joseph , Michigan , where he spent the next 30 years. There he worked in fruit growing. From 1901 he lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he worked as a dairy farmer and rancher. Between 1909 and 1919 he also worked for some farm institutes. He made a name for himself as a speaker on agricultural issues. He was also a member of his state's Agriculture Committee for four years. He also worked in other state committees. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In 1920 Comings was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside John J. Blaine . He held this office after a re-election between 1921 and 1925. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1924 he lost his party's gubernatorial election. From 1927 he worked for his state's Ministry of Agriculture. In 1928 he received a state administrative post ( State Human Officer ). He held this office until 1939, when he retired at the age of 90. He died in Whitehall on June 10, 1942 and was buried in St. Joseph.
