Butler Noble

Butler Gilbert Noble (born September 27, 1815 in Geneva , New York , †  October 25, 1890 in Brooklyn , New York) was an American politician . Between 1860 and 1862 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin .

Career

In 1835, Butler Noble graduated from Geneva College , now Hobart College . After a subsequent law degree in Crawfordsville ( Indiana ) and his admission as a lawyer, he worked there between 1843 and 1844 in his new profession. Then he gave it up and moved to Westfield, New York State, where he worked as a druggist for nine years. From 1855 he lived in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Politically, he was initially a member of the Whig Party and, after its dissolution, the Republican Party, founded in 1854 . In the fall of 1857 he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly .

In 1859, Noble was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside Alexander W. Randall . He held this office between 1860 and 1862. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he first moved to New York City and then to Brooklyn, which was then still independent. There he worked as a harbor master and for the customs authorities. He died in Brooklyn on October 25, 1890.
