Russell Olson

Russell A. Olson (born February 19, 1924 in Chicago , Illinois , †  April 14, 2010 in Holmes Beach , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin .

Career

Russell Olson attended public schools in his home country. He then studied at the University of Illinois for two years . He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II . He then ran a farm in Kenosha County , Wisconsin. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1961 and 1964 and again from 1967 to 1978 he was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly .

In 1978, Olson was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside Lee S. Dreyfus . He held this office between 1979 and 1983. He was Deputy Governor . During this time, the state constitution was changed to the effect that the vice governor is no longer also president of the state senate . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Olson worked for the US Department of Transportation . After retiring, he moved to Florida, where he spent the rest of his life. He died on April 14, 2010 in Holmes Beach there.
