Erasmus D. Campbell

Erasmus Daniel Campbell (born January 11, 1811 in South Kingstown , Rhode Island , †  April 16, 1873 in La Crosse , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1858 and 1860 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin.

Career

The sources on Erasmus Campbell are very poor. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. What is certain is that he lived at least temporarily in La Crosse and was mayor there in 1857. He was a member of the Democratic Party . The town of Campbell in La Crosse County was named after him.

In 1857 Campbell was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside Alexander W. Randall . He held this office between 1858 and 1860. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, his track is lost again. It is only mentioned that he died on April 16, 1873 in La Crosse.
