Jay H. Gordon

Jay H. Gordon (born October 10, 1930 in Bellows Falls , Vermont , † December 4, 2007 in Montpelier , Vermont) was an American politician who was State Auditor for Vermont from 1965 to 1969 .

Life

Jay Herman Gordon was born in Bellows Falls Vermont to Harry Gordon and Annie Mandell Gordon. He took part in the Korean War as a first lieutenant . He attended Dean Academy in Franklin and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1953 . The Masters followed in 1959 at New York University . While doing his Masters, he worked as an auditor for Peat, Maarwick Mitchell and Company from 1959 to 1965 .

As a member of the Democratic Party of Vermont, he was State Auditor of Vermont from 1965 to 1969. He served as an advisor to several Vermont governors. also president of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and the Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants , member of the Board of Trustees of Vermont State College and director of the Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation and Vermont Green-Up . He was also a member of the advisory boards of Howard Bank and the BankNorth Group . He was also a member of the Freemasons , the Elks and the Rotary Club . He also belonged to the Beth Jacob Synagogue.

In 1990 he became professor of accounting at Norwich University . He held this position until 2001. He learned Hebrew when he was over seventy.

He married Joan Caroline Plumpton in 1964. Gordon died of smoke inhalation on December 4, 2007, along with his wife, Joan . The couple had two sons. The graves of Jay H. Gordon and Joan Gordon are in Norwich University Cemetery.
