Douglas R. Hoffer called Doug Hoffer (born September 3, 1951 in New Rochelle , New York ) is an American politician who has been State Auditor of Vermont since 2013 .

Life

Doug Hoffer was born in New Rochelle, New York. He grew up in Norwalk , Connecticut and attended Williams College . There he earned a bachelor's degree in political science and the SUNY Buffalo School of Law. He completed this with the Juris Doctor .

In 1988, Hoffer moved to Vermont and worked in the Burlington Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs. From 1993 Hoffer worked as a self-employed political analyst for 19 years. His clients include the Peace & Justice Center, the Vermont State Auditor, the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, the Vermont State Employees Association, the Vermont State Treasurer, the City of Burlington, the Burlington Electric Department , the Connecticut River Valley Neighboring Co-Ops and many more.

In 1994 Hoffer was appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Burlington to the Electric Commission, which oversees the municipal energy suppliers. He worked there for six years. The governor appointed him to the Private Activity Bond Advisory Committee.

As a member of the Democratic Party , he ran for election in 2010 as a candidate for the office of State Auditor. At the same time he also accepted the candidacy for the Vermont Progressive Party . In this election he was defeated by the candidate of the Republican Party Thomas M. Salmon . In 2012 Hoffer ran again as a candidate for the Democratic and Progressive parties. In this election and also in the election in 2014 Hoffer won.
