Michael "Mike" Morhaime (* 1967 ) is an American entrepreneur . In 1991 he co-founded Blizzard Entertainment with Frank Pearce and Allen Adham , of which he was President and CEO until October 2018.

Life

Michael Morhaime received his bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1990 and is an alumnus of the Triangle Fraternity fraternity there . In 1991 he founded the video game company Silicon & Synapse with Frank Pearce and Allen Adham , now known as Blizzard Entertainment .

Morhaime is playing poker and finished 2nd in the 2006 edition of DICE's Celebrity Poker Tournament. In the final round, Mike Scott Fischman and Perry Friedman (pros of the World Series of Poker ) and Ray Muzyka , co-founder and CEO of the computer game developer BioWare , faced each other. After a dramatic 45-minute poker duel, Ray emerged victorious.

Along with Don Daglow from Stormfront Studios and John Carmack from id Software , he was honored in 2008 at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for creating Blizzard's World of Warcraft .

Morhaime is also a member of the Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain, a metal band founded by and with Blizzard staff , he plays bass himself.

In 2012, Morhaime was named “National Entrepreneur Of The Year” in the technology category by the Ernst & Young corporate network .

Morhaime has been opening Blizzard's own game fair BlizzCon since its inception .

On October 3, 2018, it was announced that Mike Morhaime was leaving the office of President and CEO to J. Allen Brack , who was previously Executive Producer of World of Warcraft . Morhaime will continue to work as a consultant for the company.

In a public announcement to investors from Activision Blizzard, Inc., it was announced that Michael Morhaime will also retire as a strategic advisor effective April 7, 2019.

  • Morhaime was animated in the South Park episode "Make love, not Warcraft". He also worked there as President of Blizzard.
