Michael Moxter

Michael Moxter (* 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Protestant theologian , religious philosopher and university professor.

Career

He completed his double studies in philosophy and evangelical theology in Frankfurt am Main, Tübingen and Heidelberg as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation with his doctorate in 1991 at the Eberhard Karls University . He was a research assistant and later a research assistant at the Department of Protestant Theology at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University , where he qualified as a professor in systematic theology . He represented the chair of theological ethics from 1998 to 1999 at the University of Basel .

Since the summer semester 1999 he has been teaching as a professor at the University of Hamburg .

In the winter semester 2005/2006 he turned down the offer to the theological faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin . In the 2007/2008 academic year he conducted research as an Ernst Cassirer visiting professor at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study ( Uppsala ). In the summer semester 2011 he was a fellow at the Max Weber College in Erfurt . Also in the summer semester 2011, he gave the Paul Tillich Lectures at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He headed the Protestant Theological Faculty Day as Deputy Chairman (2013–2015) and Chairman (2011–2013). He was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin from 2016 to 2017.

His main research interests are theology and law, systematic studies on theology and philosophy of Friedrich Schleiermacher , cultural theology following Paul Tillich and Ernst Cassirer , hermeneutic studies on imagery and aesthetics, and phenomenological anthropology following Hans Blumenberg .
