Michael Musalek (born March 26, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian psychiatrist and psychotherapist . He is the medical director of the Anton Proksch Institute and head of the Institute for Social Aesthetics and Mental Health at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna and Berlin. He developed significantly new approaches in resource-oriented addiction treatment (Orpheus program).

Life

Michael Musalek studied medicine at the University of Vienna , where he also received his doctorate in 1979. In 1986 he finished his training as a specialist in psychiatry and neurology . In 1993 he obtained the qualification as a psychotherapist according to the Psychotherapists Act and in the same year the diploma in psychotherapeutic medicine from the Austrian Medical Association. From 1989 to 2001 he worked at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Vienna as a senior physician in charge of the ward; In 1989 he was entrusted with the medical management of the newly founded Liaison Ambulance for Dermatology and Psychiatry at the University Clinic for Dermatology . He has been a specialist in psychiatry and neurology since 1986, and has also been a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine since 2008. 1990 Venia Docendi for the entire field of psychiatry. Since 1993 legally sworn expert for the field of psychiatry. Since 1997 he has been an associate professor for psychiatry at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna. In November 2001 he was entrusted with the management of Department 2 as Primarius at the Anton Proksch Institute. Since April 1, 2004, Musalek has been head of the institute and medical director at the Anton Proksch Institute Vienna and since January 13 , 2015 head of the Institute for Social Aesthetics and Mental Health at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna.
