Michael Ostermann (born May 15, 1945 in Tegernsee ; † January 4, 2014 in Oberaudorf ) was a German composer , conductor , musician and author .

Life

Michael Ostermann was born in Tegernsee in 1945 and made his first attempts at composition at the age of 16 as a student at the humanistic Maxgymnasium in Munich. A year later he was accepted as a young student in the subjects composition and piano at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich.

After graduating from high school, he studied conducting with Jan Koetsier and Kurt Eichhorn at the Musikhochschule in Munich . In the minor subjects he takes piano composition and composition. In 1967 Michael Ostermann composed a wedding mass for vocal quartet and chamber orchestra during his studies.

From 1970 he worked as Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater Sankt Gallen, the Stadttheater Hildesheim and the Staatstheater Kassel. He met the Bavarian actress Henny Lock-Ostermann (née Henriette Lock) at the Hildesheim City Theater . The three children Merit Ostermann , Ruth-Maria Ostermann and Clemens Victor Ostermann emerged from the marriage. From 1979 Michael Ostermann went self-employed in Munich as a composer, music educator, choir director and accompanist. From 1993 the artist lived in Dachau. In 2007, his son Clemens Ostermann died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism and was buried in the forest cemetery in Munich .

Michael Ostermann died in January 2014 as a result of cancer in the Bad Trissl clinic . On January 10, 2014, he was buried in the forest cemetery in Munich.

His creative spectrum ranged from chamber music and symphonies to stage plays and literary works. His later compositions include sacred songs for choir and instruments. His 12 sacred chants as well as his Symphony of Adoration , which Michael Ostermann was unable to perform due to cancer, attracted particular attention .
