Michael P. Cava
Michael Patrick Cava (born February 13, 1926 in Brooklyn - † September 29, 2010 ) was an American chemist ( organic chemistry ).
Cava studied at Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in 1946 and at the University of Michigan with a master's degree in 1948 and his doctorate in 1951 under André Samuel Dreiding , who had taken over the supervision of the doctoral thesis after the sudden death of Werner E. Bachmann , with the topic Studies on the degradation of neoergosterol and related substances and was then a post-doctoral student at Harvard with Robert B. Woodward . In 1953 he became an assistant professor and then a professor at Ohio State University , in 1965 at Wayne State University , in 1969 at the University of Pennsylvania and in 1985 at the University of Alabama .
He dealt with organic chemistry of natural products, organic chemistry with sulfur, selenium and tellurium and strained ring systems. He is also known as the co-author of an organic chemistry textbook.
