Michael Piller

Michael Piller (born May 30, 1948 in Portchester , New York , † November 1, 2005 in Los Angeles ) was an American showrunner , screenwriter and television producer .

Life

Piller spent his childhood in New York, where he also graduated from high school. After graduating from the University of North Carolina , he took creative writing courses that brought him to television. There Piller made a name for himself as a news producer. He got to know important people through his work as a censor for the American television station CBS . After almost four years, Piller left CBS and took on first orders for scripts for the series Simon & Simon , Miami Vice (including pilot episodes) and Cagney & Lacey .

Piller became known as the executive producer of the Star Trek series Starship Enterprise: The Next Century , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Voyager , in whose development he was also involved. In 1998 Michael Piller finished his work on the Star Trek series with the script for the ninth movie Star Trek: The Uprising . He then designed and produced the Legend , Dead Zone and Wildfire series . Michael Piller developed the series Dead Zone and Wildfire together with his son Shawn for their joint production company.

A great passion of Piller was the sport of baseball , which came into play in the series Deep Space Nine in the form of the character of Captain Sisko . His predilection for the popular American sport was an idea of ​​Piller.

Michael Piller died at the age of 57 as a result of cancer; he left behind his wife and two children.
