Michael Pius Erdl

Michael Pius Erdl (born May 5, 1815 in Bodenmais ; † February 25, 1848 Munich) was a German anatomist and physiologist.

He studied in Munich.

From 1836–37 he accompanied Gotthilf Heinrich Schubert on his trip to the Orient and discovered through his barometer measurements that the Dead Sea is deep below the level of the Mediterranean.

In 1840 he completed his habilitation in Munich as a private lecturer in physiology, embryology and comparative anatomy and became a full professor in 1844. Among other things, he worked on the development of the lobster egg, on the skeleton of Gymnarchus niloticus .

The burial place of Michael Erdl is on the old southern cemetery in Munich (Wall Links Course at 312 burial ground 15) location . The well-known botanist and Brazilian researcher Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius also lies in this grave .

Honors

In 1845 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
