Michael Schmitz (psychologist)

Michael Schmitz (born August 1, 1954 in Duisburg ) is professor of psychology and management at the Lauder Business School in Vienna as well as a coach and management consultant.

Life, professional career

1974 high school diploma in modern language Duisburg-Neudorf; 1974–1982 studied psychology, linguistics and German studies, University of Duisburg ; 1992–1993 Master's in Social Science / International Relations, University of Chicago , MA; 1995 Doctorate in Psychology, University of Vienna . Schmitz then completed several advanced training courses: 1990 American Politics workshop, Center for European Studies, Harvard University ; 1992–1993 Cognitive Therapy, School of Medicine, University of Chicago; 1992–1993 Management training, Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago; 2007–2010 Executive Education Harvard Business School (OPM).

Michael Schmitz began as a journalist for the Second German Television (ZDF) , was a correspondent in the GDR (1988–1990), then headed the ZDF Studio Southeast Europe, and was a war correspondent (in the second Gulf War and the Yugoslav Wars ) at ZDF in the 1990s - Chief reporter and later USA correspondent.

In his second career path, he founded and directed the Emotion Management and Positive Psychology projects at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna (2005–2008). At the Lauder Business School (FH) he has been teaching leadership, intercultural communication, team building, and crisis and emotion management since 2008. Michael Schmitz has also been a management coach for 15 years. Since 1974 he has been writing articles for magazines and journals. In 2005 he founded the Schmitz & Schmitz Coaching Company.
