Michael piece (born December 21, 1964 ) is a former German cyclist and GDR champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Piece, who started for the SC Turbine Erfurt , was GDR champion in the team pursuit in 1985, 1989 and 1990 . In this discipline he was also able to become vice-champion in 1984 and 1986. He drove both street races and on the track. His first appearance for the GDR national team was in France in 1986 at the Circuit des Ardennes race , which he finished in second place overall. From the races of the GDR road cycling calendar he was able to win Berlin – Angermünde – Berlin in 1989 . When he started in the GDR Tour he was not able to take any top positions, 39th place in 1989 was his best result. With his standard partner in two-man team driving , Jörg Windorf , he won the traditional 1001 lap race in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle in Berlin in 1985 . In 1988 both drivers were successful in the same place in the six-day race . In the summer of 1988 he was runner-up in the single pursuit behind Bernd Dittert , and in 1990 he finished third.
