Michael Stumpf (biologist)

Michael Stumpf (* 1970 in Regensburg ) is a German biologist and scientist in the field of systems biology . He has made contributions to evolutionary and population genetics.

Life

Stumpf was born in Regensburg and grew up in Straubing and Rothenburg ob der Tauber . He studied physics in Tübingen , Sussex and Göttingen . After obtaining his degree in physics, he continued his studies as a doctoral student at the University of Oxford , where he obtained a DPhil in 1999 . in statistical physics . During his doctoral studies he was a member of Balliol College . In 1999 Stumpf switched to biology and worked for three years at the Department of Zoology at Oxford University with Robert May, Baron May of Oxford . Stumpf has been working at the Center for Bioinformatics at Imperial College, London, since 2003 . In 2007 Stumpf received the chair in theoretical systems biology at Imperial College , London. In 2011 he was awarded the Rector's Medal for Excellence in Research Supervision .

Stumpf is married and lives in West London.
