Michael Utsch (* 1960 in Gießen ) is a German psychologist, psychotherapist and religious psychologist .

Utsch studied Protestant theology (preliminary diploma) and psychology (diploma) at the University of Bonn and works as a licensed psychotherapist . Between 1990 and 1996 he worked clinically in the rehabilitation of addicts and in psychosomatic medicine . In 1995 he received his doctorate in psychology with a thesis on the basic characteristics of scientific psychology of religion . In 1997 he became a scientific adviser at the Evangelical Central Office for Weltanschauungsfragen (EZW). He has continued this part-time activity since 2019, and also works as a resident psychotherapist (www.praxis-utsch.de), advanced training lecturer in clinics and psychotherapeutic societies and lecturer at various universities such as the Humboldt University in Berlin. He heads the DGPPN Unit "religion and spirituality" and is on the editorial board of the journals "Spiritual Care" and "Mental Health, Religion and Culture" Since 2013 he is an honorary professor at the pietistic dominated Protestant University Tabor in Marburg .
