Samuel Pfeifer

Samuel Pfeifer (* 1952 ) is a Swiss physician , specialist doctor and professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy . He is known through numerous books, specialist articles and lectures. A special concern for him is the interaction between medicine and Christian faith, therapy and pastoral care.

Live and act

Samuel Pfeifer studied medicine at the University of Zurich and then psychology and theology at Biola University , a private university with an evangelical focus in California. This was followed by training as a specialist in psychiatry and psychology in Switzerland. From 1988 to 2015 Pfeifer was chief physician at the Sonnenhalde psychiatric clinic in Riehen near Basel. From May 2015 he has his own practice in Riehen.

In 2015 he was appointed and appointed professor of psychotherapy and psychiatry by the Evangelical University of Tabor in Marburg, where he teaches in the master’s degree in religion and psychotherapy.

For 18 years he has been running the interdisciplinary Riehen seminars on psychiatry and pastoral care , each of which deals with a current topic from a psychiatric, psychotherapeutic and pastoral point of view. He is a founding member of the Academy for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care and initiator of its international congress for psychiatry and pastoral care in Gwatt near Thun and in Marburg as well as a frequent guest speaker at the leading Swiss university clinics for psychiatry and at international conferences.

Pfeifer is a member of the American Psychiatric Association , the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS).

Pfeifer has over twenty academic papers in international medical and theological journals. He is also the editor of the booklet series "Psychiatry and Pastoral Care". Pfeifer's seven books have been translated into up to ten languages.

Private

Pfeifer is married and has three grown sons. His wife Annemarie Pfeifer-Eggenberger is a psychologist, author of educational books and a politician.
