Michael Wagner (born December 18, 1975 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian soccer player and now soccer coach .

Career

The Viennese began his career in youth with Wiener Austria . In 1994 he joined the Veilchen team before moving to the German Bundesliga for SC Freiburg in 1996 . After a year with the Breisgauer he returned to his hometown Vienna and played for one season with the local rivals of his home club Austria, namely with Rapid . Here he was Austrian runner-up; In the summer break of 1998, however, Wagner became a violet again and signed again with Austria .

With his home club he was Austrian champion in the 2002/03 season and won the ÖFB Cup in the final against FC Kärnten in the same year . At the same time he also played a total of ten times for the national team , making his debut on August 21, 2002 in the friendly international match against Switzerland under team boss Hans Krankl .

After the international highlight with the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 2005, the then Austria captain moved to VfB Admira Wacker Mödling . After the Bundesliga relegation of the Südstadters Wagner went to ASK Schwadorf in the Regionalliga Ost , where he was promoted to the second-rate first division in the summer of 2007 . At the end of 2007, his contract with Schwadorf was terminated.

Since January 2009, Wagner has been a player trainer at Turn- und Sportunion Obergänserndorf.
