Michael Weber (politician, 1920)

Michael Weber (born August 2, 1920 in Schleidweiler , Trier district ; † November 5, 2012 in Zemmer ) was a German politician (SPD). From 1974 to 1982 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

Weber initially worked in a sawmill after elementary school and from 1940 in a steelworks in Hagen-Haspe , but was sent to war shortly afterwards. Towards the end he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was only released after two years. From 1954 he worked in the Salzgitter ironworks , from 1958 as an industrial foreman . Weber became a member of IG Metall and in 1957 the SPD . Among other things, he was deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district of Salzgitter. He was also chairman of the Working Group for Employee Issues (AfA) in the Braunschweig district and on the federal board of the AfA. From 1968 to 1974 he was a member of the Salzgitter City Council. In the 8th and 9th electoral periods (from 1974 to 1982) he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the Salzgitter constituency .

In March 1982 Michael Weber was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany ; his party awarded him the Willy Brandt Medal in 2006 .

In old age Weber returned to his homeland in Rhineland-Palatinate and lived with his daughter in Zemmer- Rodt.
