Michael Wiemers

Michael Wiemers (* 1955 in Bonn ) is a German art historian .

Life

From 1974 to 1980 he studied art history, English and philosophy at the University of Bonn (1980 state examination / 1983 doctorate ). From 1983 to 1989 he was a research assistant at the University of Cologne . From 1989 to 1991 he had a postdoctoral fellowship from the German Research Foundation , and extended research stays in Florence , London and Paris . After completing his habilitation in Cologne in 1992, he was a professor at the University of Tübingen from 1993 to 1995 . In 1995 he was appointed university professor for modern art history at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg .

His work and research focus are English art of the 17th and 18th centuries, Italian painting and sculpture of the Renaissance, and German art in the age of the Reformation.
