Michael Winkler (pedagogue)

Michael Winkler (born February 24, 1953 in Vienna ) is a German pedagogue and professor for general pedagogy and theory of social pedagogy at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .

Life

Michael Winkler studied pedagogy, German , modern history and philosophy at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . He completed his doctorate on Friedrich Schleiermacher's pedagogy in 1979 under Wolfgang Sünkel . In 1986 he also completed his habilitation at the University of Erlangen . He has had practical pedagogical experience in home education. After acting as professor at the (then) Hochschule der Künste in Berlin (HdK) and at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, as well as after visiting professorships a. a. at the University of Graz in 1992 he was appointed Professor of General Pedagogy at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. He has declined an offer to succeed Klaus Mollenhauer at the University of Göttingen. Until 2008, his chair was part of the Institute for Educational Science, of which Winkler was twice director.

In 2008 he founded the internationally oriented Institute for Education and Culture (IBK) together with the educator Ralf Koerrenz . In its research, the institute takes up the tradition of a hermeneutical-cultural-scientific educational theory and tries to combine this with the challenges of the present (globalization, postcolonialism). In teaching, the institute carries the interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Education - Culture - Anthropology (BKA), in which, in addition to the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, departments from the Theological and Philosophical Faculties are also involved.

In addition to his work at the University of Jena, he worked as a lecturer at the Leuphana University in Lüneburg and as a visiting professor, most recently at the University of Vienna. Furthermore, research and lecture trips etc. a. to Japan, several times to Taiwan and to Poland as well as to Israel.

Winkler has also worked as a freelancer for several daily newspapers for a long time, primarily for the Nürnberger Nachrichten, u. a. also for the Badische Zeitung and the Frankfurter Rundschau; In addition to scientific reporting and features, the main focus of work was motorsport.

Winkler is married and has two grown children.

Memberships

Michael Winkler is u. a. Co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Sozialpädagogik, member of the advisory board of "Forum Erziehungshilfe", the board: Socio-educational impulses, the board of trustees of the Schleiermacher Foundation, the GIB - Society Information Education, International Academy for the Humanization of Education, the International Society for Educational Aids and member of the German Society for Educational Science and the International Hegel Society. He is also a member of the interdisciplinary research project "Education for Freedom" at the University of Jena. Since 2014 he has been working as an Advisory Consultant for the Bulletin of Educational Resources and Research in Taiwan.

Research priorities

Michael Winkler researches on the subjects of general pedagogy, pedagogical theories of modern times, history and theory of pedagogy, social pedagogy, theory of social pedagogy, youth welfare, family education as well as childhood and youth.He stands for a critical educational science, which, however, follows the theoretical tradition of pedagogical thought, in particular feels committed to humanities pedagogy without refusing access to social science. His works range from philosophical topics - especially on Hegel - to pedagogical classics such as Schleiermacher, Froebel, Korczak and Makarenko to empirical studies, e.g. B. in the school accompaniment (free all-day school Milda) or for the training ability of regular pupils in Thuringia. Together with Michael Opielka he carried out the evaluation of the Thuringian family offensive and he is an auditor of the parents' academy in the Thuringian Family Sense Foundation. In 2010 he was also responsible for the implementation of the 4th International Froebel Congress at the University of Jena.
