Michael Zimmermann (diplomat)
Michael Zimmermann (* 1958 in Villach ) is an Austrian ambassador .
Life
He studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law in 1981 . From 1981 to 1983 he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna and joined the diplomatic service in 1983. From 1986 to 1990 he was assigned to the Austrian Embassy in Tokyo . He then headed the Austrian Cultural Institute in Tehran . From 1995 to 1999 he was Head of Cabinet of State Secretary Benita Ferrero-Waldner , then Director of the Austrian Cultural Institute in London . In 2004/2005 he was Head of Cabinet of Foreign Ministers Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Ursula Plassnik, and from 2005 to 2009 he was Head of Real Estate Management at the Foreign Ministry.
From January 2009 to January 2014 he was ambassador to Hungary , after which he was responsible for personnel and infrastructure matters in the Austrian Foreign Ministry . He has been the Austrian Ambassador to the United Kingdom since August 2, 2018 .
He is a member of the AV Edo-Rhenania Tokyo student association .
