Martin Eichtinger (born April 5, 1961 in Graz ) is an Austrian diplomat , lawyer and politician ( ÖVP ). Since March 22, 2018, he has been a member of the Provincial Government of Lower Austria, Mikl-Leitner II .

life and career

Martin Eichtinger studied law at the University of Graz where he was awarded a Dr. iur doctorate. Since 1986 he has been working in the diplomatic service of the Republic of Austria . From 1988 to 1992 he was the personal secretary of Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Alois Mock and at the same time embassy secretary at the Austrian embassy in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

From 1992 to 1999 he was head of the Austrian press and information service in Washington, DC From 1999 to 2000 he was an employee of the Secretary General of the Association of Austrian Industry , responsible for international relations. In 2000 he was briefly office manager of the government commissioner for services to former slave and forced laborers of the Nazi regime, Maria Schaumayer, Federal Chancellery. In the same year he also became head of international relations at the Association of Austrian Industry and held this position until 2002. From 2003 to 2007 he was head of cabinet of the Federal Minister for Economics and Labor, Martin Bartenstein, and from 2006 to 2007 General Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economics and Labor.

From 2007 to 2010 he was Austrian ambassador to Romania and Moldova and from 2010 to 2015 head of the cultural policy section in the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs . From 2015 to 2018 Martin Eichtinger was Austrian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .

On March 22, 2018, Eichtinger succeeded Karl Wilfing , who became President of the State Parliament , as the ÖVP State Councilor in Lower Austria .

Private

Martin Eichtinger is married and has two children. He lives in Perchtoldsdorf .
