Helmut Wohnout

Helmut Wohnout (born February 3, 1964 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian and ministerial official . He has been head of the Austrian State Archives since November 1, 2019 .

Life

Wohnout studied after visiting the Schottengymnasiums history at the University of Vienna and Georgetown University in Washington, DC After his master's in 1987, he was in 1991 for Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1992 to 2000 he was club secretary and office manager of the second president of the National Council Heinrich Neisser (ÖVP). He then worked as a manager in the Federal Chancellery in Vienna. He was head of the cabinet of State Secretary for Art and Media Franz Morak (ÖVP) and department head of the Federal Press Service .

In 2011 he qualified as a professor in Austrian history at the Institute for History at the University of Graz and became a private lecturer . In addition, he has been managing the Karl von Vogelsang Institute since 1993 . He has been editor of the yearbook Democracy and History since 1997 and has published several books on history.

On October 30, 2019, it was officially announced that Wohnout will take over the management of the Austrian State Archives from November 1, 2019 .

He is also district chairman of the Austrian workers' union Vienna-Döbling and board member of the documentation archive of the Austrian resistance (DÖW).

Since 1983 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KaV Norica Vienna . He later became a member of the KAV Capitolina Rome .
