Lorenz Mikoletzky

Lorenz Mikoletzky (born May 12, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian archivist and historian with a focus on modern and contemporary history .

Career

Lorenz Mikoletzky grew up in Josefstadt. He attended the Piarist High School and graduated there in 1964. The son of the historian Hanns Leo Mikoletzky studied history and classical archeology at the University of Vienna from 1964 to 1969 . After receiving his doctorate in 1969, he joined the Austrian State Archives . There he was appointed director of the General Administrative Archives Department on February 1, 1991. From July 1, 1994 to December 31, 2011 he was Director General of the Austrian State Archives and Head of the Archives Office.

In January 1993 he was appointed honorary professor for the modern history of Austria at the University of Vienna. He is the executive vice-president of the Association of Austrian Historians and History Associations and member of the board of the Commission for Modern History in Austria. From 1998 to 2003 he was deputy chairman of the historians' commission of the Republic of Austria .
